Rocking Chair Rebuild – Upholstered in JF Fabrics' “Kinney”

Project type

Residential Upholstery

Date

September, 2025

Location

Lethbridge, Alberta

This chair had quite the history before it reached our shop — it had been reupholstered at least twice by amateurs, each time with the previous layers left underneath. By the time it arrived, sitting in it felt like perching on a pile of laundry.

The owner asked us to completely transform it into a comfortable rocking chair for a soon-to-be mother, so we started from scratch. Every layer of old upholstery, foam, and webbing was removed to expose the original frame. From there, we rebuilt everything — new springs, webbing, decking, foam, and terylene, designed for both comfort and longevity.

We used soft foam for the seat and ultra-soft foam for the back, striking the perfect balance between support and coziness. The chosen fabric, Kinney from JF Fabrics, brought everything together with a calm, contemporary look. The original pattern designs from earlier upholstery layers offered inspiration, but none were quite right, so we redesigned the fabric layout to better complement the shape and movement of the chair.

The finished result is a complete transformation — one that looks as good as it feels, perfectly suited for the peaceful moments of early motherhood.
